DRAFT CONSTITUTION OF ACH’IDOMA WORLDWIDE
PREAMBLE
We the Idoma people,
living and working in different countries of the world, being aware of the need
for a forum for effective contribution to the development of Idoma land in
particular and Nigeria in general, bearing in mind the need to promote
co-operation, understanding and unity, and recognizing the need to improve the
economic and social well being of ourselves and our
people, do hereby make, enact, and give to ourselves this Constitution.
ARTICLE ONE: NAME
The
Organisation shall be known and called ACH’IDOMA
WORLDWIDE
ARTICLE
TWO: AIMS AND OBJECTIVES
The
aims and objectives of the Organisation are as follows:
(1)
To promote
and foster economic, social and educational development of Idomaland.
(2)
To
promote Idoma culture and heritage worldwide
(3)
To serve as
an intellectual think-tank on issues affecting the Idoma nation, and
contribute both financially and intellectually towards the development of
Idomaland.
(4)
To
liaise with other Idoma Associations and similar interest groups to promote the
cause of the Idoma nation.
(5) To disseminate information on the Idoma nation through
publications on its website, magazines, and other media.
(6) To encourage co-operation and healthy
discourse among members.
(7)
To project the cause of the Idoma nation, both at home and in the
Diaspora.
(8) To solicit for funds and donations from
its members, local and international donor agencies and charities towards the
realization of its objectives.
(9)
To carry out any other activity which are compatible with any of the
preceding objects, as the members may determine from time to time.
ARTICLE THREE:
CHARITABLE &
NOT-FOR-PROFIT ORGANISATION
The Organisation shall be a Charitable and
not-for-profit Organisation within the meaning ascribed to that term by all
applicable laws, with all the rights and privileges ascribed thereto.
ARTICLE FOUR: MEMBERSHIP
1.
The
Organisation has virtual membership. Membership is open to all sons and
daughters of Idoma nation, irrespective of where
they reside and work. The
term “Sons and Daughters of Idoma nation” includes all persons related to
the Idoma nation, whether by birth, marriage, friendship, common interests or
otherwise, and who share the same aspirations for the development of Idomaland.

An intending
member shall send an e-mail to olidoma@idoma.net
requesting for inclusion in the distribution list. Such a person shall also send a brief profile to profile@idoma.net
which shall be published on the Idoma.net website.
3.
The
Webmaster shall maintain, at all times, a database of all members, and make
information on it available to members of the Organisation from time to time.
4.
Membership
of the Organisation shall only be for the promotion of the cause of the Idoma
nation as outlined in the aims and objectives stated in Article 2 above.
ARTICLE FIVE:
FINANCES
1.
The sources
of finance of the Organisation shall include the following:
(a)
Mandatory
contributions by members, which may be monthly, quarterly or annual, as the
members shall determine from time to time.
(b)
Donations
from voluntary organisations, charities, government institutions, and other
bodies willing to contribute to the aims and objectives of the Organisation.
(c)
Proceeds
from any income yielding activities, bank placements and other sources as may
become open to the Organisation from time to time.

In addition
to the above sources of finance, the Organisation may, from time to time,
prescribe special levies to be paid by each member towards execution of specific
projects.
ARTICLE SIX: TRUSTEES
The Organisation shall
appoint Trustees for the running of its activities, and may
incorporate Trustees
under the relevant laws for the purpose of furthering its
objectives.
ARTICLE
SEVEN: BANKING
1.
The
Organisation shall operate bank accounts in such banks, both in Nigeria and
abroad, as the members may determine from time to time.
2.
Members shall determine the signatories to the
Organisation’s accounts from time to time.
ARTICLE
EIGHT: MEETINGS
1.
Meetings of
the Organisation shall be held via the Internet, and decisions reached by
consensus of ideas. Members shall
send their views on any issue to the e-mail group olidoma@idoma.net,
which shall be circulated to all members.
2.
In the event
that a vote is required on any issue, such vote shall
be taken via the Internet on the Idoma.net website. A simple majority of votes
cast on any issue carries the day and the Organisation shall proceed to
implement such decisions or resolutions.
3.
All opinions canvassed on the net shall
be personal to the individuals making such contributions, and shall not form the
basis of any liability to the Organisation, its officials or otherwise.
The Organisation and its members are accordingly indemnified against any
liabilities, lawsuits, or claims which may arise as a result of the publication
of any such opinions or contributions on its website.
4.
Members shall maintain a strict code of
conduct, which respects the views of other members and accordingly, no personal
attacks, innuendos, derogatory remarks or other abusive or offensive comments
shall be permitted in the discussions of issues relating to the Organisation.
Discussions shall centre on issues of common interest to all members and
the Idoma nation.
5.
In addition to deliberations on the net,
members may also arrange periodic face-to-face meetings at least once every
three years at any location in Idomaland, as the members shall determine.
Such meetings shall serve as a forum for interaction among members and
may also be an avenue for recognition of excellence and awards by the
Organisation. Such meetings may
also be used for fund raising activities in support of the Organisation’s
projects and activities.
ARTICLE NINE: PRIVILEGES

Only
members of the Organisation who are signed on to the list and have sent their
profiles for publication on the website and fulfilled all financial obligations
may contribute to any issue put to the vote by the Organisation.

The
organisation may stipulate special recognition for its members who have excelled
in contribution of ideas, finances, or in other ways promoted the cause of the
organisation in any particular period. The mode and nature of such recognition shall be discussed by
the members and determined by consensus from time to time.
ARTICLE TEN: CONFLICT RESOLUTION
It is
recognised that differences of opinion may arise in the course of the activities
of the Organisation. In the event
of such conflicts, the issues shall, as far as possible, be resolved by
consensus of opinion of members, failing which an arbitration panel, consisting
of three members shall be set up to analyse the issue and proffer an acceptable
resolution. The recommendations of the arbitration panel on such an issue shall
thereafter be put to vote by all members, and a simple majority of votes taken
on the issue one way or the other shall be final.
ARTICLE
ELEVEN: AMENDMENT
1. This Constitution
shall be subject to amendment upon resolution to that effect passed by a simple
majority of members voting on the issue.

The members
of the Organisation shall have the power to deal with any situation not
expressly covered by the provisions of this Constitution, upon resolution to
that effect passed by a simple majority of members.
This
Constitution was enacted by unanimous resolution of members passed this ---- day
